Arts In Context | Music For All

Since the eighties there’s been a
precipitous drop in just the amount of minority
students who have access to a quality music education. Learning an instrument, anything that’s really difficult teaches these skills of perseverance, of working and in a group. It allows you to
learn how to set goals and work systematically towards them Music is like one of the most exciting things for me and it always helps me in difficult situations too. William has really been well-rounded by this. He needed something else in his life. And this is bringing out a little more maturity. Many of these kids when you put them into a very intense program, you know like el sistema, for a couple of hours every day or most days, what happens is
that you give these kids a fighting chance. I feel like we’re born to actually do something. We can’t stay in one place we have to know more about the world, you know? That’s what I want to do, I want to change people’s lives. I want to be a part of people’s lives especially in a musical way.
