(electronic music) – Hello everyone from around the world. I’m Sparsh Shah. (rap music) – You said you had 65 million views? Holy moly, man. – I have osteogenesis imperfecta. It’s brittle bone disorder. I can’t walk or stand
but I do happen to sing. (laughs) ♪ For in the war of good and evil ♪ ♪ He’s already won ♪ ♪ Because when I was sick
in bed you healed me ♪ ♪ When I was all alone, you were with me ♪ ♪ And when I had no clue of what to do ♪ ♪ Of what to do I take
it one day at a time ♪ ♪ And you pulled me through ♪ (upbeat music) (upbeat piano music) ♪ They’re on the way ♪ – In the beginning, my
parents actually started with piano lessons when they figured out my musical talent. (piano keys sound) But my arms kept breaking,
not because of the piano, but because my arms broke
I couldn’t play, so… (piano keys sound) Ha, uh, they stopped that
and then they went to vocal and then that’s when my real talent shone. ♪ Yeah ♪ ♪ It’s been a ride ♪ (Not Afraid by Eminem sung by Sparsh Shah) That song especially was
a great inspiration to me and so is Eminem and that
really helped me realise, that, you know, I wasn’t
afraid to do anything. I resonated with that and
so that really spoke to me. ♪ You can try and read my

and I felt totally ready, more ready than ever because I’d like practised that song like dozens
and dozens of times before. What we did is we had two iPhones and then my dad’s film camera right in the middle and we
literally filmed the whole thing in one shot. ♪ Like a present for Christmas
but his gift is a curse ♪ ♪ Forget the earth– ♪ It’s been a long way and I
was really, really amazed at how many people came

challenging, definitely. It was our first child. None of our parents or
anyone in our family had this problem. And it was challenging
when he was growing, how can we meet his expectation every step of his life. (piano plays) I thank God to give Sparsh to us because I think I’m fulfilling
some kind of a purpose in this life. When God gave Sparsh to
us, this is the reason my life is here on this

gift and so being able to show people how I unleash that gift and use that gift that

and these are the high hats. So that’s how you, that’s
how I made the hip hop beat. All original. And so I did that and
then I put the beats, which sounds kind of,
kind of, kind of sick, like kind of fire, it has like fire to it. That’s perfect. – [Man] Good, all right. – The wheels just don’t stop turning. It’s like he’s just constantly
giving you information and coming up with ideas
and it’s more like, oh do I need to move this chair? And you don’t even realise at this point like okay, we’re talking
about a wheelchair and there is a disability that, you know, impedes him from certain
things, but it’s like, it doesn’t even faze him, he’s just like, “We’re doing this and
then we’re gonna do that,” and it’s awesome, it’s just really great. – Mom I feel very compressed. – Alright, do you want
to just get out of this– – No, take me out, but like straight. You see I’m all crooked? – Oh I see what you’re saying. – Okay, yeah, oh my God,
that feels so much better. – Selling me those lyrics, okay? I want you to feel
them, I want to see them in your expressions, in your, you know, and I want to see all that

you have to get back up (blows out) Got to get back up every
time you fall down. If I were to die today,
I want to make sure that I die realising that I fulfilled my sense of purpose. It’s crazy. (piano plays) (door squeaks) (squirt bottle squeaks) – [Sparsh] It’s a big splash. (door closes) (hands tap) – He is going to have a long fasting, so probably it’s 4:00
and he’s going to eat because he does not
walk, so I think I prefer to have him like eat a little bit early and this is his favourite sub-jee. It’s called cho-lay. – Mmmm, smells so good. – [Mom] I know. – Well, mom made some

I ended up clicking on it, must have listened to it
about more than 100 times before I made a cover of it. I thought it was gonna go viral but I didn’t know what it
meant to have a viral video and how fast it would spread, because I’ve heard of them
but I didn’t know first hand so I did it and for a
while it was just like 100, 200, 300, 400 views but my dad had been posting it to everybody he knew in his whole life, which
he’d never done before and then one of my dad’s friends in India posted it on Reddit. From Reddit it blew up
from 400 views in one night to 72,000 views the next morning. Then when I came back from
school that day, it doubled and it kept on going and going and going until I got millions of views and I was, it was crazy for me and that’s really, from then
on I started learning more about Eminem’s story, I
learned more about rap and I listened to more rap in general and so that’s how I got
into hip hop mostly. – What time are we gonna leave? 4:30 or five? – [Sparsh] Five. – Five? – [Sparsh] Let’s leave at five. (speaking in foreign language) – Okay. – [Sparsh] And I want to call
my friends before I leave. Can I? – Yeah. – All right. – All right, gotta go. Before you stop eating. – Haaaaaalelujah. Yes! So this is kinda like
my last supper, per se, before my surgery. – I help my son and then
the other one comes. – A quick match. – Come on. – Go! Arrggh. We can knock each other down! – [Dad] Aaaah! – No! (laughs) We both fell! – Oh my God. – [Brother] Dad! That’s a round! – [Dad] High five. Too slow. – Noo! After all! (laughs) – I’m gonna be staying
with Sparsh in the hospital while dad and little one
will stay in the hotel, so I’m packing everything that he needs right after the surgery,
his friends, teddy bears, and his laptop which has music stuff here. – Huh huh huh. – We got to talk to Denna
really quickly, okay? To grandpa and grandma. – He he he. – Before we leave. – [Woman On Phone] All the
best for your surgery tomorrow. – [Sparsh] Thank you. – [Woman On Phone] It’s
gonna be fine, okay? Everything is gonna be fine. – Thank you. We’re gonna need
everybody’s prayers though. – [Woman On Phone] Yeah, yeah. – [Sparsh] Look, Denna,
it’s a very tough surgery. – [Denna] Yeah, but don’t
worry, it’s gonna be okay, okay? – [Sparsh] Thank you. – [Denna] Everything will be good. – [Man On Phone] Good things

you are a good person, so nothing can go wrong,
as simple as that. – It’s a big surgery,
but we know it was coming so we are all prepared and especially that we
know the doctors there are specialising in what Sparsh has and hopefully he’s in good hands. (soft music) – [Dad] Let’s go. (birds tweet) – What if I go too? – This is the moment we’ve
all been preparing for. – I love you. – I love you too. – I don’t want you to die. – Hey, (speaking in foreign language) – Well, it is okay because
he doesn’t want me to die. – (speaking in foreign language) – But is there gonna be lots of blood? – I’m gonna put this… – [Dad] Yeah there will be some blood. – [Sparsh] Yeah there will. 2 after my surgery day and it’s been a pretty wild ride. My back does kinda hurt
because it’s not used to this position. (camera clicks) – [Man] 227, orthopaedics call 227. – This is Day 3 after the surgery. I had some, actually a lot,
of back pain waking up. I ended up kind of having
a nervous breakdown. It was a bit hard. I guess you could say I’m still fighting in that battle field. (camera clicks) (machine beeps) Thank the Lord I’m finally
getting out of the ICU and I’m going into my
own little kids room. (machine beeps) Hey guys, all of your
words of encouragement and all of your prayers worked, because I’m going out
of this hospital today. – [Brother] Guys, hold this one! – Boy am I glad I’m doing that. Yay I’m home. (bell rings) I’m on my bed relaxing
somewhat comfortably. Obviously it’s gonna
take a while for the pain to go away, so see ya and keep fighting, keep dreaming, keep
believing, and most of all, keep having faith. See ya. (dog barks) – [Voice On TV) Raincor is Hiding! Maybe this turtle isn’t– – The operation was amazing
from a surgery standpoint. They straightened my back from around 80% on the other side, so 30 degrees or less on my spine. The doctors used traction,
they pulled all four of my limbs, I believe, in order
to make my back straighter. (soft music) – [Sparsh] Yeah, like you
know you pulled out the seams. (wheels rattle) Wait, this does not feel good, my pants. – What is wrong? – I don’t know. No, the bottom, just pull them down, noo. – Pull it down? – Yes, please. – Better? – Yeah. – Let’s go. – Let’s do this, it’s taken a, let’s take on L.A. have osteogenesis imperfecta. – Okay. – It’s brittle bone disorder,
and so it’s a genetic disorder where your bones are extremely fragile and I mean, some people can
walk with this condition, others sadly don’t
survive their first year, but I was kinda like in the middle. I can’t walk or stand, but obviously– – But you can rap and sing. (laughs) – I can rap and sing and I inspire– – People can– – Yeah, I stand up for
myself while sitting down. – What do you want people to
take away from your story? – I would say this. Rare is beautiful, but
disease is something that needs to be stopped. (upbeat music) Wooo! (woman laughs) – [Woman] You my friend give
an awful lot of people hope, you know that right? – [Sparsh] Thanks. – No I’m serious, you’re amazing. – [Sparsh] Thank you. – Like I don’t even, there’s,
I don’t have any words. – We weren’t even, like
when he had the surgery we were not even sure
that we’d be able to fly and he’s like, “No dad,
we have to go,” you know. – That’s right, because this
surgery that you just had. – Yeah. – Yeah.
– Just one month ago. – A month ago. – Oh my gosh, thank you
for making this happen. And it was your hardest surgery? – It was and it will be, probably. (upbeat music) – Welcome welcome to the sixth annual Tribute to Champions of
