Coachella season is finally upon us my friends, and if yesterday was any indication, this year’s festival is gonna be absolutely insane! The 2019 Coachella day one festivities kicked off on Friday in Indio, California and yes, there were so many show stopping performances from Childish Gambino, to DJ Snake to BLACKPINK, who all had the crowd on fire with their energized sets. So with Friday’s performances in the books let’s dive into some of the highlights from Coachella’s day one experience. First up, let’s talk about BLACKPINK who took over the Sahara Stage, making their highly-anticipated US festival debut. The crowd exploded with energy and in return, the K-Pop sensation gave their audience everything they’d been hoping for, all while looking fabulous mind you. Wearing sparkly dresses and two-piece sets, the ladies were absolutely shimmering while they performed their massive hits like “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du,” and “Kill This Love” and of course incorporated their signature choreography. BLACKPINK instantly became a trending topic on Twitter and the girls even addressed how important this moment was for them, saying, “It’s an honor to be a part of Coachella.” Meanwhile, DJ Snake gifted the crowd with the first (and hopefully not the last) surprise of the weekend. The DJ surprised the Coachella audience bringing out recent collaborators Selena Gomez, Cardi B and Ozuna for a live performance of their hit “Taki Taki.” And then there was Childish Gambino, aka Donald Glover, who closed out the night with fireworks, theatrics and a whole lot of dancing. His headlining Coachella performance followed the premiere of his highly anticipated mini-film, ‘Guava Island,’ which he debuted the day prior and features a notable cast of co-stars including Rihanna, Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie. Other acts who kept the Coachella crowd buzzing all day included Janelle Monae, who brought her Dirty Computer tour to the desert and danced alongside Lizzo and Tierra Whack during her set, Kacey Musgraves, who floated onto the main stage in a red fringe dress performing hits from her Grammy winning album Golden Hour with a giant, rotating, disco ball behind her and we even saw incredible debut sets from King Princess, Ella Mai, and so many more.
