Composer Camden Boyle | The Roof

My name is Camden Boyle, I’m
a New York based composer This feels so self-aggrandizing
I love it Jack has a very beautiful roof which I had been to before I
composed this piece and one time I had been there
it was night time, it was very dark with just a hint of snow around
the edges and there were all these skyscrapers and I tried to get that sort of
frigid, very distant and yet very heart-breakingly
sublime tone world into my music the poeticism of the
New York skyline at night and all the lights it really carries me away from
the immediacy of the moment and I think that’s what music
is ultimately about it’s something that
takes you away from where you are when you’re
sitting in the audience it takes you somewhere
else each instrument of the string trio
has a very charactaristic quality the violin, very passionate,
very bright the viola can be rich and
autumnal and sweet and the cello can have this very
cantabile quality like a male singer I try to explore the tension between how all these instruments
combine into one single sound and how each of them can
divide into its own sound
