Power Pop – Teenage Kicks from The Current

Power Pop – Teenage Kicks from The Current

It’s Jim McGuinn for Teenage Kicks, and I’m
so excited, because this week, we’re talking about one of my favorite subgenres of rock
and roll: power pop! It’s been called “the combination of the crunching
guitar rock of The Who, the sweet melodicism of the Beatles, the harmonies of the Beach
Boys and the ringing guitars of the Byrds.” Songs of longing, songs of despair, songs
of hope. Mostly songs about,
“Why doesn’t that girl like me more??” I love it so much, and there are so many great bands from this genre; we’re going to play
a ton of them on Teenage Kicks, and you’ll hear more, like this: [singing Badfinger, “No Matter What”] [singing Big Star, “September Gurls”] [singing Cheap Trick, “I Want You to Want
Me”] [singing Material Issue, “Valerie Loves Me”] [speaking] Yes! You’ll get this and all kinds
of pop hits! It’s the Power Pop collection
from The Current! Listen this week on Teenage Kicks! It’s gonna be great! Fifty pop hits, all for you in one
collection! Power pop forever! VO: It’s not sold or rented in any stores.
