Record, Engineer & Research Music: Digital Audio Arts at uLethbridge

My name is Kirian Turner. I’m a fourth year
digital audio arts major. I’m from Winnipeg, Manitoba. And then my final year of high school,
I actually got to come visit this space right here and I kind of fell in love with it. A
lot of the professors here, they’re more than willing to engage with the students and their
research and also engage in your research, which was another reason I was drawn to this
program. Come in with an open mindset. I wanted to be a sound engineer at first. The great
thing with this kind of broad program is you get exposed to a lot of fields that you didn’t
even know existed. A bunch of students, and I, we started up a little thing where we bring
in a full live band, set them up in the room and you can come in here and you have tons
of time to just kind of experiment with different microphone techniques. Creativity is very
important in any sort of workplace that you’re working in. ‘Cause if it’s something you’re
passionate about, then you should be following that because it will lead you in the right
direction no matter where you end up after University.
